Arlington, Texas (AP) The Arlington Public Library is seeking $50 million for a $2 million renovation of its historic building.
A proposal from the Arlington County Board of Commissioners says the library will transform into a “creative space for children, adults, and families to engage in conversation and learn about history and science.”
The project is part of a larger revitalization effort underway in the Arlington community and is expected to begin in 2019.
The board said in a news release that the new building will also include new art installations, a new library, a dining hall, a children’s museum, a gift shop, a music studio, and an open air market.
The new library is expected not only to increase the library’s library holdings but also the area’s educational offerings.
The Arlington Public Libraries has about 2,000 employees.
