The Oakland Public Library is currently seeking volunteers to help clean up a graffiti-filled library that had been painted over by the city of Oakland.
The Oakland Public Libraries website says it is looking for volunteers to clean up the graffiti-covered walls, windows, benches and furniture at the library in the city’s West Oakland neighborhood.
The city is considering a permit to demolish the library and replace it with a new one.
A spokesman for the city told Newsweek the city is not seeking permits to tear down or renovate the library.
“We are only looking for volunteer volunteers who have knowledge of building construction and maintenance,” said spokesman Mark Mazzagatti.
The library is located at 905 North Sacramento Street.
